Apple - They never disappoint

I am an Apple fanatic. I just love it. I’ve watched all of the documentaries, read Steve Job’s biography (recommend for an insight into the great organization that is Apple) and watched YouTube videos. It all began way back in 2005 (I think) when I received the iPod Nano as a birthday present. I was presented with this very small metal thing. It had a coloured screen and it played all of my favourite songs through a wire and in to my ear. WOW. HOW DID THEY DO IT??? I went up to my Uncle’s house where he synced it with his Apple laptop. Then, I wanted one of those. Our computer was so slow at home. A Packard Bell. It wasn’t as shiny and clean looking as my Uncle’s laptop. My songs were finally on my iPod and it didn’t leave my side for weeks.
My fascination with these amazing products kicked in almost immediately. That was only the beginning. I then received an iPod Touch for Christmas. I initially thought I was getting the iPhone but this device did everything except the phone part. The iPhone tv adverts were all over the place. First of all my dad had put a towel around it and then wrapped it with wrapping paper. So, I really didn’t know what was going to be inside. I got passed that. Then the experience of an Apple product took place. Something everybody should experience at least once! Clean lines, bright white with a beautiful shiny Apple logo and a red ribbon. This was only the gift wrap. WOW. Inside that was a black rectangular box that somehow had a very soft feel. The way the box opened, so smooth, John Lennon photographed on the front. The bottom half dropped out and there appeared my iPod touch. Straight away I ran to our laptop. (By this time we had finally gotten rid of the Packard Bell.) Of course, I kept the protective cover on it and I synced all of my music. Then I learned about these things called ‘Apps’. Games on my iTouch! I couldn’t believe it. My favourite was ‘Jelly Car’. I spent hours playing it. One evening when my nana had been rushed to hospital my Uncle distracted me with ‘Paper Toss’ and ‘Flight Control’. It was the beginning of a revolution. These devices were going to become such a huge part of our lives and we had no idea. We were going to create memories surrounding them and create memories with them. I loved my iTouch. It didn’t leave my side.
At the time I had a Sony Ericsson phone that slid upwards and had coloured lights on the side. I thought it was very cool… until the release of the iPhone. I wasn’t going to stop until I got it. I loved phones. Even as a baby. Time went by and Apple had now released an updated version of the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, 2 years later in 2009. My brother Peter for his birthday got the first iPhone, the original. How cool. I have to admit, I was jealous. However, I knew my time would come. Then in April 2011, the iPhone 4 was released. This device was priced at €569 on a pay as you go plan. I was very disappointed. How was I going to get this phone?? My mum was on a bill pay plan so I checked her upgrade status. She wasn’t able to get one. My only option was to keep saving my money and eventually I would have enough. Then Christmas rolled around. Of course, the recession was in full swing. Our parents had let us know that they wouldn’t be able to spend as much money this Christmas compared to previous Christmas’. To be honest, it took me awhile to come to terms with this. I just couldn’t figure out why. I didn’t understand.
Christmas morning, the year 2010, my brother and I had agreed that I would stay in bed until 7a.m. instead of 6a.m., like normal. Of course, Peter got up at 6 a.m. and then he couldn’t help but wake me. ‘You have to come down, Olivia!! You have to come down!!!’ In my head all I was thinking was ‘What is going on??’ I wasn’t expecting much. I arrived in to the room. I saw a new book, a lovely bottle of perfume, a dvd and my first thought was ‘I didn’t think things had become this bad.’ I leaned forward……. Well, I nearly had a heart attack. Everything made sense now. I understood why my brother was doing a silent dance/jump in the air while trying not to wake my parents and why he absolutely had to come upstairs to wake me. There, before my eyes was a perfect Apple Logo sparkling up at me. A logo I knew all too well. I probably could have collapsed at that stage. AN IPHONE 4 each?? No way!! This couldn’t be happening. But, it was. That is probably one of my favourite Christmas morning memories that I have with my brother. Of course, the iPhone helped. But, the complete shock that we both experienced was priceless. Once again, I headed for the study. This time instead of a HP laptop I had finally convinced my mum that an iMac would be a worthwhile purchase. And, it was. Everyone in the family loves it and it has so many capabilities. This time I had two phones to sync. I rang o2 and I activated both of our nano sim cards. We were ecstatic. That Christmas day was particularly special in our house. My nana was at our house for the Christmas week so as a result all of our uncles and aunts were calling to our house. However, that Christmas they didn’t come one by one, they came all at once! It was just brilliant. A Christmas I definitely won’t forget.
Of course, Apple followed with an iPhone update but at this stage the iPad had been taking the world by storm. I wanted to add to my Apple family. I love Apple. I wanted to create a collection. I still do. To add to that, college was in sight. I knew that I would be attending and that I would need a laptop. Of course, it had to be a MacBook. I used my hard earned savings to purchase my first Apple laptop, a 13’ MacBook Pro. If I had my time back I would probably go for the MacBook Air just simply because of the weight of the MacBook. I’m not the strongest and the last thing you want around college is a heavy rucksack. However, this now gives me a perfect excuse to purchase the new iPad Air. Have you seen it yet?? If not, what are you waiting for? It weights a pound!! A pound!! How can they put so much magic in to something so slight. I am guilty of purchasing the iPhone 5, despite not really needing it. I love it. And yes, I am waiting for the iPhone 6. Call me crazy I don’t care. I just LOVE it.
